Photography the seedy side.

With the advent of digital technology and more and more websites popping up offering indexes of models and photographers,a few site have been brought into the limelight for the wrong reasons.

Model mayhem was mentioned when one of its members was charged with a sexual assault crime, now it's not the fault of model mayhem, but the checking of members credentials seems to be very haphazard and could be easily improved.

websites such as purpleport are facilitating amateur photographers, and models to come together and create images, however it's very clear from the members portfolios that the majority of the images are nude, art nude, adult, and are almost all women.

There has been a lot of talk within their own forum regarding the intentions of some photographers when hiring models to shoot, it's seems its more about the naked women and the sexual gratification of the photographer than the images.

It's clear to all but the blinkered, that some of the models on purpleport would not be getting model work without getting naked in front of the camera.  Whilst all are adult and can do what they wish, I fear some may go down the nude road because it's made so easy.

I have spoken to a couple of models who say its easy money, and at up to £50 per hour it's certainly not badly paid.  Although the fear is long term the easy money may well be regretted later in life with images on the web potentially for eternity.

One thing that is glaringly obvious with the entire amateur and hobbyist photographers is a huge lack of commercial experience, most shoots carry no paperwork, contract, realise form, very little if anything goes wrong, or a dispute arises.

Insurance is a huge topic in its own right, but a vast number of purpleport members think liability insurance is someone else's problem.  Just put yourself in the position of being in a wheelchair for the rest of your life following an accident on a shoot and no one had insurance.  In today's litigious society to operate in this manner will end in tears.

Tips:

Photographers, get some paperwork, contracts, release forms, anything to show what your doing and your intentions, and get insured.

Models, check, check and double check your photographers, check the paperwork, do your research, only do what you fell comfortable doing.
